Shadowedlife teaches you how to make a pattern!
No credit is required because I didn't invent patterns... loool. have fun learning, I hope I'm not too confusing.Step ONE
1)Open up a new blank document in paint shop pro9. I usually make the size of my patterns 100x100, but I highly doubt that matters as long as the width and height are the same size and don't make it too small or too big. Choose whatever background color you want, it doesn't matter, but be sure to choose a color for the brush that mixes well with the background color of your document.Step TWO
2)Click on the brush tool and draw (or use a brush) to design your blank document. The more detail you put, the more detail the pattern. I just drew a smiley face for an example. Then go to Effects --> Reflection Effects --> and click on Kaleidoscope.Step THREE
3)I usually play around with the numbers because the numbers changing gives you a different pattern all the time! Correct me if I'm wrong. Horizontal Offset makes the pattern spread outwards off the document and Vertical Offset makes the pattern go inward towards the center. You'll see what I mean by that when you try it. Rotation Angle roates the pattern to a certain degree that you choose, but if you use that, set it at either 0, 90, 180, or 270 degrees or else the pattern will not match up with eachother when you use it in a tile. Scale Factor zooms in and out on the pattern. Zooming in and out changes the entire pattern, you should experiment with that too. Number of Petals shows how many symmetrical sides there are... I don't know if that even makes sense, but you'll know what I mean by that when you try it out, haha. Setting the Number of Orbits more than 0 will turn your pattern into a circular shape. It's sometimes great and sometimes not so great... try it out. Radial Suction... hmmm that's a hard one to explain... it's like the center of the pattern spreads outward if the number set is greater than 0 and if it's under 0, then it sucks the pattern into the middle like a black vortex thing... probably confusing? Well, the only think I can tell you is to experiment. Patterns change so much with slight changes.Step FOUR
4)You've made your pattern! Click ok to get out of that kaleidoscope window. If you want to make your pattern more detailed, it's best to do the kaleidoscope effect again. If you want it the most detailed pattern as possible on the first effect, set the Scale Factor to -90. When you are done, save this pattern into your pattern folder and you'll be set... unless you don't know how to add your pattern folder into paint shop pro9. It's the same as adding the texture folder into paint shop pro9, learn it HERE.FINAL PRODUCT
